My Family Vacation

Instead of celebrating Christmas this year, my family decided to take a trip. We spent the 10 days before the holiday in Grand Cayman, B.W.I. It was a great time. The weather averages at 80 degrees. It only rained one day of our 9 day stay. We rented a condo, the "Cayman Breeze", I highly recommend it. The people who own it are great, and on the internet everywhere check them out!

We spent most of our days on the beach, or by the pool at the condo. Of course we did all the touristy stuff as well (in the first 3 days). After we picked up our jeep we drove to the country run Turtle Farm. They actual breed turtles there.

You get to see turtles in all stages of life. The first thing anyone says is, "I want to pick one up!" So toward the middle stages they have a tank where you can hold them, as Kara shows us above. Just around the corner from their they have a HUGE pond with HUGE turtles in it. Full grown sea turtles (bigger than me) they use these ones to breed I suppose.

On the way home, we visited the famous "Blow Holes" on the southeastern side
        of the island.

This place took many years of water beating on the shore to make paths for spray higher in the beach area. Not that I understand how it was all done, but it looks cool, I swear. But that I suppose is another story.

The water is so warm, you can walk right out of the condo and go for a swim. I'll warn you now, they say the North Wall is right off the beach, it is 100 yards or so.. but beware those breakers. The tide and them will kill ya (well.. toss you around a bit anyways... I'm living proof!)

Right down the road from our condo is the huge 'playland' build by the Hilton corporation called Kai Rum Point. It seems that the Hilton couldn't get land to build their hotel on the water so instead they built a landlocked hotel and bought a ferry service and part of the Northern Point of the Island.

They ferry their guests to this place for free so they still get business. Lucky for us anyone can visit and take advantage of the niceties they have to offer. We even went on a snorkel trip to StingRay City, a wild time to say the least. The North Side is a beautiful (sometimes windy) place and only a 30 mile drive to the other side of the island and downtown Georgetown!

If you are truly interested in taking a vacation to Grand Cayman, I would recommend you look on the internet. It is the easiest way to find a place to stay, rent a car in advance and find out all the cool spots to go (pictures included!) I highly recommend making the voyage.
