Spirit is an Austrailian Shepard.  He is very photogenic.  I think he actually likes having his picture taken, as he seems to pose when he sees me with my camera.  He was born in 1998, so he will be 4 years old in 2002, though he will always be our "puppy".

Spirit loves the fact that he has an electric fence for the yard.  This gives him freedom to roam about 2.5 acres of our 3 acres.  He knows where he can go - and loves to run freely and openly without having to worry about the chain yanking him back.  The added bonus for us is no more worries about him getting hit by a car on the busy road out front.

Spirit really likes the snow, although we haven't had as much snow this year as last year, he still enjoys the occasional dusting.

While at my parents over the Christmas holiday we took Spirit for a long walk in the woods.  He loved running ahead, checking it out and running back toward us, almost as if to say "Come on - Hurry up!"  It looked more like fall than late December, as there was no snow, but it was enjoyable all the same.

Another thing Spirit likes is car rides.  He loves to watch the world go by.  Sometime he ends up in the oddest positions - here you see him resting his chin on the window ledge to look out without too much physical exertion on his part.

Because Spirit likes to go for car rides, he often ends up going shopping with us.  Of course, 99% of stores don't allow dogs, so he generally waits in the car and people watches.  Sometimes we end up buying a lot of stuff (or a few large items), this especially happens at Sam's Club. When this happens, Spirit tends to get in the way when we are loading the truck (he's trying to check out the merchandise as we are attempting to load it.  At these times, we find it easier to get him out of the truck, and out of the way.  This is where the shopping cart comes in.  He will sit quietly (if he moves too much the cart moves and that freaks him out) and wait for us to finish loading the truck.  Generally, all the people walking by talk to him and tell him how cute he is (which of course, he knows already).  We finally had the camera with us to capture one of these moments.
